Welcome to my first step by step crochet stitch tutorial! I have tried to break it down as much as possible to make it easy to follow.
This crochet stitch is simply beautiful! It consists of crochet fans inside diamond shaped structures. A great stitch to use for a baby blanket or afghan, a crochet scarf, top or any item you wish to make.
Abbreviations:
ch – Chain
sc – Single Crochet
dc – Double Crochet
dc2tog – Double Crochet two together
Let’s Begin
To start off you need to crochet your foundation chain. Multiples of 8.
First Row
1: Then chain 4 (counts as first double crochet (dc)), then dc twice into the 4th chain from the hook.
2: Chain 1
3: single crochet (sc) into the 4th chain
4: Chain 1
5: Into the 4th chain from where you are currently at; you are going to create a fan – 3dc, ch1, 3dc.
6: Then continue from step 2 above for pattern.
7: Ending in 3dc on the last chain.
First row is completed!
Second Row
1: Turn work and chain 1, then sc into the top of the first dc.
2: Chain 3
3: dc2tog into the sc from the previous row. To dc2tog first create a double crochet only passing through the loop once so you still have two loops left on the hook. Then double crochet again into the same stitch draw through 2 loops, then through the 3 remaining loops on the hook.
4: Chain 3
5: sc into the middle of the fan from the row below
6: Repeat from step 2 in this row.
9: Ending in chain 3 and sc into the last dc from previous row.
Third Row
1: Turn work, Chain 1
2: sc into sc from previous row, chain 1
3: 3dc, ch1, 3dc into the dc2tog from previous row.
4: Chain 1 then sc
5: Continue from step 2 in this row.
6: Ending with a sc into the sc from the previous row.
Fourth Row:
1: Turn work, chain 6
2: sc into the ch1 in the middle of the fan from the previous row
3: Chain 3
4: Then we are going to dc2tog in the sc from the row below. To dc2tog first create a double crochet only passing through the loop once so you still have two loops left on the hook. Then double crochet again into the same stitch draw through 2 loops, then through the 3 remaining loops on the hook.
5: Chain 3
6: Continue from step 2 in this row.
7: Ending in a dc.
Repeat 4 rows for pattern.
Here is a diagram of the pattern:
