Lily Sugar ‘n Cream Knit Kitty Bolster free knitting pattern.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Nap like a cat when you put this knit Lily Sugar’n Cream pillow on your sofa.
This free knitting pattern provides instructions for creating a whimsical “Knit Kitty Bolster,” a cylindrical pillow designed to resemble a stylized cat. The project is worked primarily in the round, starting with one of the flat, circular ends of the bolster.
The body of the pillow is knitted in a simple, repeating stripe pattern, using four different colors of yarn to create a visually appealing effect. The pattern transitions back to the main color for the majority of the body.
The opposite end of the bolster is then worked, mirroring the first end with a series of decreases to shape it into a flat circle. The pillow form is inserted before the final decreases are completed, and the remaining stitches are gathered together to close the opening.
Separate inner and outer ear pieces are knitted flat, shaped with decreases to create pointed triangles. These are then sewn together and attached to the pillow. Finally, the cat’s facial features – eyes, nose, mouth, and whiskers – are embroidered onto one end of the bolster using satin stitch and outline stitch, bringing the kitty to life.
The pattern calls for intermediate knitting skills due to the use of double-pointed needles and a circular needle for working in the round, various increase and decrease techniques, and the assembly and embroidery steps. The finished bolster measures approximately 19 inches (48 cm) long and 7 inches (18 cm) in diameter, making it a fun and cuddly addition to any room. The pattern is written using a guage of 21 sts and 28 rows.
