Abbreviations:
k = knit
p = purl
c4f = (cable 4 front)- slip 2 stitches to a cable needle and hold at the front of the work, knit 2, then knit the 2 stitches from the cable needle.
c4b = (cable 4 back)- slip 2 stitches to a cable needle and hold at the back of the work, knit 2, then knit the 2 stitches from the cable needle.
Cast on multiples of 10 plus 2
Row 1: p2, *k8, p2; rep from * to end
Row 2: *k2, p8; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2
Rows 3 to 6: Repeat rows 1 and 2 twice
Row 7: p2, *c4b, c4f, p2; rep from * to end
Rows 8 to 10: Repeat row 2, then rows 1 and 2 again
Row 11: as row 7
Row 12: as row 2
Row 13: as row 1
Row 14: as row 2
14 rows make up pattern.
One repeat of that stitch makes an owl. I used it for my grandson’s mittens and hat last Christmas.

Very enjoyable to knit. Process is so straightforward once tried one might almost be able to knit it with eyes closed. Much easier than trying to follow a chart. Very effective finish. Thanks for the pattern.
